Apollo 11 astronaut and Gemini 12 pilot Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., famously the second person to walk on the moon after Neil Armstrong, publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump on Wednesday. Aldrin, also a retired brigadier general, reflected on America’s significant challenges, emphasizing that the presidency demands individuals with unparalleled clarity, decision-making skills, and the ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations—qualities he believes Trump exemplifies.

Aldrin, who flew combat missions over Korea and navigated the historic Apollo 11 mission to the moon, shared a unique perspective on leadership. “The job requires sober analysis of frightening scenarios, and the instinct to lead with resolve,” he explained. He underscored the gravity of presidential decisions, which frequently involve American lives, and affirmed his confidence in Trump’s capability to handle such responsibilities.

“This election presents a choice for all Americans, and each of us has one vote,” Aldrin said. Acknowledging the difficulty some voters may face, he stressed that in turbulent times, true leaders are needed to guide the nation, inspire its people, and execute critical missions. For Aldrin, his vote is driven by the proven accomplishments of Trump’s first term, which he believes align with the nation’s current needs. “For the future of our country, to meet enormous challenges, I believe we are best served by voting for @realDonaldTrump. I wholeheartedly endorse him for President of the United States.”

Aldrin reflected on the Trump administration’s focus on space, saying he was “impressed” with the renewed emphasis on human space exploration as a priority for national policy. He praised efforts to revitalize interest in the Moon and Mars exploration and recognized the re-establishment of the National Space Council. Highlighting Trump’s national security contributions, he commended the creation of the U.S. Space Force, which Aldrin views as essential in the increasingly contested domain of space.

Elon Musk, whom Aldrin also acknowledged for his advancements in private sector space exploration, endorsed Trump as well. Aldrin noted Musk’s role in the “great advancements in the private sector space economy,” applauding his forward-thinking vision.
