Big Meech Released from Prison, Transferred to Halfway House to Complete Sentence

Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory, the co-founder of the notorious Black Mafia Family (BMF), has been released from federal prison and will serve the remainder of his sentence in a halfway house, according to a report from TMZ. Flenory was transferred from the Federal Correctional Institution Coleman Low in Wildwood, Florida, to a community reentry program overseen by the Bureau of Prisons Miami Residential Reentry Management Office.

Flenory, who was arrested in 2005 and convicted in 2008, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in a vast drug trafficking and money laundering operation. In 2024, his sentence was reduced by nearly three years, and he is now expected to be released on January 27, 2026, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

The Black Mafia Family (BMF)

Founded in 1985 in Detroit by brothers Demetrius and Terry Flenory, the Black Mafia Family became one of the most notorious drug-trafficking organizations in the U.S. At its height, the syndicate had more than 500 members across the country and generated over $270 million between 1989 and 2005, according to Newsweek. The brothers were involved in distributing cocaine across the U.S., using connections with Los Angeles drug sources and Mexican cartels.

In addition to their drug operations, Demetrius Flenory launched BMF Entertainment, a hip-hop music business that fronted for their money laundering activities. However, the operation came to a halt in 2005 when the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) arrested 30 members of the BMF and seized $2 million in cash, assets, weapons, and drugs. That same year, both Demetrius and Terry Flenory were indicted on multiple charges.

Legal Consequences

In 2007, the Flenory brothers pleaded guilty to operating a continuing criminal enterprise responsible for the large-scale distribution of cocaine across the U.S. from 1990 to 2005. Their 30-year prison sentences reflected the enormity of their operation and leadership roles within the BMF.

As part of his early release, Demetrius "Big Meech" Flenory will now serve his final years in a halfway house under the supervision of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with his full release expected in early 2026.
