Nick Bosa Makes a Bold Statement with MAGA Hat During Postgame Interview
After the San Francisco 49ers triumphed 30-24 over the Dallas Cowboys, standout lineman Nick Bosa made headlines by interrupting a postgame interview to publicly show his support for former President Donald Trump. Bosa, 27, jogged into the frame between quarterback Brock Purdy and NBC's Melissa Stark, proudly displaying a red MAGA hat, which features Trump's campaign slogan: "Make America Great Again."
As Bosa dashed away, Stark acknowledged the moment, remarking, “All right, Nick Bosa with a message there.” Later, during a press conference where he sported a different hat, Bosa chose not to elaborate on his actions but emphasized the significance of the current political climate. “I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think that it’s an important time,” he stated, alluding to the upcoming presidential election on November 5, where Trump is set to face Vice President Kamala Harris.
CNN has reached out to both the NFL and the 49ers for their perspectives on players making political statements. Bosa’s mother, Cheryl, appeared to endorse her son's bold move, sharing a user’s Instagram Story that praised his actions with the comment: “(Cheryl Bosa) you raised your boy right!! #BOSAFORTRUMP.”
Nick Bosa and Trump share a longstanding connection, dating back to Bosa's college days at Ohio State, where he faced criticism for his past political tweets, including one supporting Trump and another derogatory remark aimed at former 49er Colin Kaepernick. Although Bosa later apologized for calling Kaepernick a "clown," he acknowledged the importance of Kaepernick’s protests against police brutality.
In 2019, after being drafted second overall by the 49ers, Trump publicly congratulated Bosa, predicting a bright future in the NFL. “Congratulations to Nick Bosa on being picked number two in the NFL Draft. You will be a great player for years to come, maybe one of the best. Big Talent!” Trump tweeted at the time, adding, “San Francisco will embrace you but most importantly, always stay true to yourself. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
