Soothe Your Election Day Jitters with Puppy-Cuddling Events Across U.S. Aloft Hotels
This Election Day, Aloft Hotels invites Americans to unwind with puppy-cuddling events in select cities, offering a refreshing and comforting break from the political hustle. Partnering with local shelters, the events include stress-free interactions with puppies, themed snacks, and beverages—no registration needed.
Aloft Hotels, part of Marriott Bonvoy’s collection, is collaborating with animal shelters in major cities like New York, Milwaukee, Austin, and Atlanta to host “Not Watch Pawties” on Nov. 5. Aiming to provide a calming escape from election night tension, these gatherings welcome everyone to relax with adorable puppies for a few hours and forget about the political frenzy.
The events will run from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at various Aloft locations, including New York's Chelsea and Austin Downtown, with some extending until 9 p.m. No registration or fees are required, making it easy for anyone to stop by, connect with shelter puppies, and enjoy complimentary puppy-inspired treats, such as a Puppucino or Chocolate Bark-tini.
According to a recent American Psychological Association (APA) survey, 69% of U.S. adults feel considerable stress related to the upcoming 2024 presidential election, a jump from 2016’s 52%. Many Americans also worry that election results may cause violence, with nearly a third feeling estranged from family due to political differences.
"Everyone deserves a moment to de-stress," said Brian Jaymont, an Aloft executive. "Whether through an in-person cuddle with local shelter dogs or our calming ‘Election Escape Meditation Video,’ we hope people find a moment to unwind after voting."
For those unable to attend in person, Aloft released the “Election Escape Meditation Video”—a 47-minute, dog-led meditation that offers a serene, virtual getaway with a calming canine companion.
Animal shelters Rescue City in New York, Rescue Gang in Milwaukee, and Pet Rescue by Judy in Orlando will supply the pups for these events, promoting the joy and tranquility that canine companionship provides. Science agrees: Johns Hopkins Medicine states that petting a dog reduces cortisol (the stress hormone) and boosts oxytocin, a hormone linked to happiness.
So, if Election Day has you tense, stop by one of Aloft’s "Not Watch Pawties" and let the soothing company of a puppy offer you a stress-free break!
