After sporting a MAGA hat following the San Francisco 49ers’ victory over the Dallas Cowboys, Nick Bosa is in hot water. During a post-game interview with Brock Purdy, Bosa made a surprising appearance, showcasing the hat and drawing attention to it before leaving the scene. This act didn’t sit well with California State Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, who expressed his discontent on social media.
Rivas tweeted, “I hope [49ers CEO] @JedYork trades Nick Bosa to Mar-A-Lago. As a lifelong @49ers fan, I can say I’ve seen enough of Bosa in California.” His comments came in response to Bosa’s vague statement about the hat, where he mentioned it was “an important time” but chose not to elaborate further.
Bosa’s choice to wear the MAGA hat could lead to consequences, as the NFL's rulebook explicitly restricts players from displaying political messages or causes on game day. According to Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8, players cannot convey political messages through their attire, with strict guidelines on what can be worn or displayed.
This incident highlights a trend of NFL players publicly supporting political figures this election season. While Bosa has a history of supporting former President Donald Trump, Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has also endorsed Trump, and Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Thomas Booker IV has campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris.
