The Arizona Cardinals dampened Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa’s highly anticipated return from a month-long concussion layoff on Sunday, pulling off a thrilling 28-27 victory. With just seconds left on the clock and the Dolphins leading 27-25, kicker Chad Ryland converted a 34-yard field goal to clinch the win for Arizona.

Tagovailoa was making his first appearance since September 12, receiving a warm standing ovation from the crowd at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, as he entered the field. The 26-year-old quarterback quickly demonstrated his impact by leading Miami on a touchdown drive, culminating in a 1-yard rushing score by running back Raheem Mostert.

In the game, Tagovailoa completed 28 of 38 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown, connecting with eight different receivers. The Dolphins’ 27 points marked their highest scoring output of the season. Reflecting on his return, Tagovailoa expressed his joy at being back on the field, saying, “It feels good to be able to come back and play with my teammates… It was a tough loss today against a really good team.”

Tagovailoa acknowledged the challenging month he had faced while recovering, stating, “I felt like myself. I’ve been preparing for five weeks as if I were to play… It felt normal coming out there.” The Dolphins had struggled without him, going 1-3 and averaging just 10 points per game in his absence.

A key moment came in the third quarter when Tagovailoa scrambled for a 13-yard gain on a crucial third down, sliding to secure the first down, which drew an enthusiastic response from the crowd. “I thought that was super cool,” he remarked about the fans' reaction.

The Cardinals, now 4-4 this season, saw impressive performances from quarterback Kyler Murray, tight end Trey McBride, and wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. Murray threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while McBride recorded nine catches for 124 yards, and Harrison added six receptions for 111 yards and a touchdown.

As the Dolphins fell to 2-5, they are set to face the Buffalo Bills next Sunday at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will host the Chicago Bears.
