Of all the highlights from this week’s pre-election episode of Saturday Night Live, one standout moment was Dana Carvey’s final appearance this season impersonating President Joe Biden. Carvey, an SNL alum, returned to the show this season to bring his rendition of Biden to life, adding humor in the tense run-up to Election Day. According to Carvey, Vice President Kamala Harris was absolutely amused by his impression, laughing so hard during her recent visit to the show that she was “bent over laughing.”

Carvey shared the moment on his Superfly podcast, recalling that Harris had a candid and emotional connection with the SNL audience during her appearance. “It was a very human moment,” he described, “the way the audience reacted to her for a couple of minutes just kind of brought something out. It was emotional.”

After Harris joined Maya Rudolph—who regularly portrays her on the show—in her dressing room, Carvey had a chance encounter with the Vice President. He was still in full Biden character when he walked in, and with just a simple greeting from Harris, he launched into his Biden hooks, saying things like, “No, I’m not kidding. I’m being serious.” Carvey laughed as he described her reaction: “She was laughing so hard. It was hilarious.”

Reflecting on Harris’ response, Carvey felt honored. “It was kind of surreal,” he said. “I think she sees this all from a unique angle. It was almost cathartic.”

The SNL cold open that week had Maya Rudolph reprising her role as Harris, who faced her reflection to exchange lighthearted affirmations with the real Kamala. Together, they quipped, “Keep Kamala and carry on-ala.” Harris’ guest appearance required NBC to comply with the FCC’s equal time rule, leading to 90 seconds of free air time for Donald Trump.

Leading up to the election, SNL brought back multiple alums, including Andy Samberg as Doug Emhoff and Jim Gaffigan as Tim Walz, contributing to a memorable show packed with comedy, nostalgia, and political satire.
