In a surprising turn of events, actress and producer Eva Longoria emerged as a key figure in saving the original John Wick movie, providing a crucial $6 million investment mere hours before the film was slated to shut down.
Directors Chad Stahelski and David Leitch recently shared this incredible story in an interview with Business Insider, revealing how Longoria's timely intervention turned the tide for the struggling project. The production faced an unexpected financial shortfall when one of its investors was unable to secure the necessary funds. In a desperate bid to keep the film alive, the filmmakers, along with lead actor Keanu Reeves, began contributing their own money, with producer Basil Iwanyk even maxing out his personal credit cards to cover costs.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which was involved in the film’s financing, reached out to various actors for support, leading to Longoria stepping in with her significant investment. This timely contribution not only prevented a shutdown but also laid the foundation for the film's later success.
After the crisis was averted, Stahelski and Leitch took Longoria out to lunch as a token of their gratitude. Reflecting on her decision, Longoria confessed she was initially skeptical about the investment’s success. However, she later proclaimed it was “the best money” she ever spent. The John Wick franchise has since become a global phenomenon, grossing over $1 billion, thanks in large part to Longoria's quick thinking and generosity.
