8. Rafflesia arnoldii: This plant originates from the rainforest of Indonesia and is very strange: large in size, red-orange in color and smells like rotten meat! For its unpleasant smell it is known as the cadaver plant. Unable to photosynthesize, the giant flower gets the water and nutrients it needs from a branch with long, thin ties that resemble fungal cells. The flower feeds on this branch for several years before it blooms. Rafflesia, which swells up a few months before it blooms, finally takes on the appearance of a bright red bucket with its huge ears.
