Oscar-Winner Lupita Nyong'o Adopts Shelter Cat After Break-Up: "Yoyo is saving me"

Rescuing an animal gives you a wonderful feeling. You feel like a hero in your own little world. This doesn't change the world, but it changes an animal's world. Even the biggest celebrities have had their lives change by bringing home a shelter pet.

"I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities," Nyong'o, an Oscar-winner for 12 Years a Slave, wrote in her post. The announcement comes after Nyong'o, who won an Oscar for her breakout role in 2013's 12 Years a Slave, wrote that she was experiencing "a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception," reportedly related to a breakup with TV host and journalist Selema Masekela.
