Phoebe, a young abandoned fox cub, has developed a remarkable and touching friendship with two orphaned badger cubs. This heartwarming relationship has amazed animal lovers far and wide. The unusual trio found each other at Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, where staff decided to place them together in hopes of fostering companionship. When Phoebe arrived at the sanctuary at just two months old, there were no other foxes around to keep her company. Concerned about her becoming too dependent on humans, the staff made the creative decision to house her with two young badger cubs who were also orphans.

Betty and Bella, the badger cubs, were discovered wandering near a road, believed to have lost their mother to a nearby badger carcass. Phoebe was found abandoned and scared inside a cardboard box. Although badgers and foxes typically avoid each other in the wild, the three young animals quickly grew close. Their shared experience as orphans helped forge a bond as they spent their days eating, sleeping, and playing together at the sanctuary.

While badgers are known to be territorial and may chase away foxes in the wild, Phoebe, Betty, and Bella defied this natural behavior. Their touching story demonstrates that animals can form friendships across species, challenging the notion of animosity between them. For now, the trio resides happily in an outdoor kennel at the sanctuary. If more foxes are brought to Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary, the staff intends to gradually introduce Phoebe to them, preparing her for eventual reintroduction to the wild. The rare sight of a fox and badger friendship makes their bond even more special and inspiring.
