Bennett, who led the Cavaliers to their historic 2019 NCAA National Championship victory, has been at the helm since 2009. His leadership turned UVA into one of the nation's elite programs. In June, he signed a contract extension that was supposed to keep him in Charlottesville until at least 2030.

However, the university has confirmed that Bennett will announce his retirement at an official press conference scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Cavaliers’ 2024-25 season opener is set for Nov. 6 at home, where they will face the Campbell University Fighting Camels at 7 p.m.
